BROOKVILLE — Renee A. Stiver, a resident of Knox Township near Brookville, has officially declared her candidacy for Jefferson County Treasurer.

With over 25 years of public service within Jefferson County government, Stiver brings a deep well of experience to the race. She spent more than 16 years at the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Services, where she held roles as a 911 dispatcher, trainer, and shift supervisor. For the past nine years, she has worked in the Treasurer’s Office, first as Second Deputy Treasurer, and currently as First Deputy Treasurer. In this role, she manages accounts receivable, serves as a notary, and oversees the issuance of dog, hunting, fishing, BINGO, and small games of chance licenses.

“I’ve had the opportunity to learn the Treasurer’s Office from the ground up,” said Stiver. “That kind of firsthand experience is invaluable in serving the public effectively and responsibly.”

Stiver emphasized the importance of fiscal discipline in the Treasurer’s Office, noting, “Our team prides itself on being fiscally conservative and acting as responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars—qualities that are essential to the role of treasurer.”

Her decision to run comes following the retirement announcement of long-serving Treasurer James “Moon” VanSteenberg, who served Jefferson County for two decades. With VanSteenberg’s endorsement, Stiver said stepping into the race felt like a natural progression in her career.

A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, Stiver lives near Ramsaytown with her husband of 21 years, Jason, their daughters Addison and Karlee, Karlee’s fiancé Seth, and their granddaughter Scarlett. Community service is a central part of her life; she and her husband have long volunteered with local fire departments, and she has served as an emergency medical responder for 16 years. She is also the organizational leader of the 4H Top Guns, a role that reflects her deep commitment to civic engagement.

“For me, community involvement isn’t optional—it’s foundational,” Stiver said. “I truly believe that if community service is beneath you, then leadership is beyond you.”

She concluded her announcement by asking for the public’s trust: “I respectfully ask for your support and your vote on May 20, 2025. Please choose experience, integrity, and dedication.”
