PUNXSUTAWNEY: It was cold — the kind of cold that makes fingers stiff, strings snap, and musicians question their life choices — but that didn’t stop Good Juice from squeezing every last drop of energy out of Barclay Square during their first-ever performance in Punxsy.

Billed ahead of time as part of the Punxsy Groundhog Days in the Park festivities, the February 2 midday show (11 a.m. to noon) delivered exactly what the flyer promised: funk, jam, pop, rock — and a whole lot of personality. Despite freezing temperatures and a few early hiccups, the band turned what could’ve been a rough outing into a memorable debut.

A Rocky Start… And A Strong Finish

According to the band, the day didn’t begin smoothly. Cold weather caused fingers to lock up, strings to break, and lyrics to briefly vanish into the winter air. To top it off, the group realized their kick drum had been left behind at home — not exactly a small problem for a band built on groove.

Enter Boomtown Country.

The fellow performers didn’t just share the stage earlier in the day — they quite literally saved the show, swooping in with a replacement kick drum and keeping the music alive. Good Juice made it clear afterward that the favor won’t be forgotten, praising Boomtown Country as “killer,” “super swell,” and a band worth following in their own right.

That kind of on-the-fly teamwork is what live local music is all about — and the crowd benefitted.

Dancing Through the Cold

Once the early issues were ironed out, the set took off. Even in frigid conditions, people stuck around, danced, and soaked up the band’s high-energy blend of funk, jam, hip hop, pop, R&B, and rock. Good Juice has built a reputation for being, in their own words, “professionally unprofessional” — a phrase that fits a band that doesn’t take itself too seriously but takes the music very seriously.

That vibe translated well to an outdoor Punxsutawney crowd, especially during a weekend built around tradition, fun, and community.

More Punxsy On The Way

If you missed their Barclay Square debut, you won’t have to wait long for a second chance.

Good Juice is set to return to Punxsutawney for their first full night show at the Loyal Order of Moose #954 on Saturday, February 21, giving local audiences a longer, louder taste of what the band brings when the sun isn’t fighting the temperature.

That show is part of a packed 2026 schedule that includes stops across DuBois, Brockway, St. Marys, Brookville, Weedville, and beyond — with festival appearances, block parties, and club dates filling out what’s shaping up to be a busy year.

A First Impression That Stuck

Broken strings, frozen fingers, forgotten gear — none of it stopped Good Juice from leaving Punxsutawney with warm hearts and plans to return. If anything, the challenges made the day more memorable, proving the band can roll with the punches and keep the crowd moving no matter what.

Punxsy showed up.

Good Juice delivered.

And judging by the response, this won’t be the last time the two cross paths.
