IRVONA: The Glendale Sportsmen’s Association is celebrating a major investment in the future of local outdoor recreation after being awarded a $50,000 Recreational Project Grant from Visit Clearfield County.
Association leaders say the funding will serve as a true “game-changer,” helping launch construction of a brand-new trout fishing hatchery at the club’s grounds in Irvona — a project years in the making and one deeply rooted in community tradition.
Building A Hatchery — Building A Legacy
The planned hatchery will expand the club’s capacity to raise and stock trout in area waterways, strengthening one of Clearfield County’s most cherished outdoor pastimes.
By increasing local trout production, the association aims to:
- Enhance stocking efforts in nearby streams and lakes
- Strengthen sustainability of local fisheries
- Create long-term infrastructure that benefits anglers for generations
Club representatives say the project represents more than bricks, boards, and water systems — it’s about preserving access to quality recreational fishing across the region.
Boost For Youth And Outdoor Education
The new hatchery is also expected to significantly impact youth programming, particularly the club’s annual Children’s Fishing Derby.
Organizers say the facility will provide a reliable and consistent trout supply to support the popular event while expanding opportunities for hands-on outdoor education.
Young anglers will not only benefit from stocked waters but may also gain a closer look at how fish are raised, cared for, and released — turning a recreational opportunity into a learning experience.
A Community Investment
Visit Clearfield County’s Recreational Project Grant program focuses on strengthening tourism, outdoor recreation, and quality-of-life amenities throughout the county.
Glendale Sportsmen’s Association leaders expressed deep appreciation for the support.
“A massive thank you to the team at Visit Clearfield County for believing in our vision and supporting local recreation,” the association shared in its announcement. “This wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated members, partners, and stakeholders who cheer us on every step of the way.”

What’s Next?
With funding secured, planning and construction efforts are expected to move forward in the coming months. Association officials say members and the public can expect updates as ground is broken and the project takes shape.
For anglers across Clearfield County — and especially in the Glendale Valley — the message is clear: the future of local fishing just got a powerful boost.
