Will the legal proceedings against former DuBois City Manager John "Herm" Suplizio be postponed yet again, with the case now facing yet another deadline to file pretrial motions fast approaching? To date, there have been twelve delays in total since mid-November of 2023. These delays have served as a source of frustration for area residents and officials alike who welcome the next steps en route to the eventual closure of this dark chapter in DuBois history.

A federal judge, one month ago, approved a request from the defense for an extension, citing the need for more time to review newly provided discovery materials. According to the ruling, the government has submitted additional evidence, and the defense requires further time to assess the information before determining which pre-trial motions may be appropriate.

Suplizio, along with former city staff member Roberta Shaffer, is facing serious federal charges related to theft and fraud. The two have been accused of misappropriating over $1.5 million in city funds, leading to a high-profile case that has drawn significant public attention.

With the last extension granted, like the eleven before it, the next court-imposed deadline in the case is now set for March 24th (this coming Monday). The delays prolong what has already been a complex legal battle, with both sides preparing for the next steps in the judicial process.
