As the City of DuBois prepares for its upcoming consolidation with Sandy Township in 2026, 13 candidates have filed petitions to secure a seat on the first-ever city council. The petitions, submitted to the Clearfield County Election Office, reveal that 11 candidates will appear on the Republican ballot, while two will run under the Democratic ticket in the May 20 primary election.

The petition filing deadline was Tuesday, March 11, marking the official start of the election season for the newly consolidated city.

On the Republican ballot, voters will find the following candidates: J. Barry Abbott Sr., Randy A. Beers, William A. Beers Jr., Blaine David Clark, Shirley M. Dahrouge, Samuel J. Mollica III, Duane Patrick Reasinger, Mark T. Sullivan, Devon Duane Vallies, David Alan Volpe, and Richard A. Whitaker.

The Democratic ballot will feature Melissa G. Keen and Michael J. Piccirillo.

The primary election will serve to narrow the field, with seven Republican candidates moving on to the November municipal election. In contrast, the two Democratic candidates will also advance. The final selection of seven council members will be determined in the general election on November 4, 2025.

These new council members will take their oaths of office on January 5, 2026, officially becoming the first to represent the newly consolidated City of DuBois. After being sworn in, the council will elect a chairperson and mayor, as outlined by interim city Co-Manager Ben Kafferlin during a January meeting.

Candidates are running for four-year terms, with positions allocated based on the percentage of votes received in the November election. This election marks a historic moment as DuBois and Sandy Township transition to a unified city government.
