DUBOIS: Public meetings are where local government actually happens — not in headlines, not on social media, but in a room where decisions are discussed, debated, and ultimately made. In the City of DuBois, February offers residents two opportunities to attend City Council meetings, hear what’s being discussed, and, in many cases, speak directly to the elected officials representing them.
Under Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act, all regular City Council meetings are open to the public, and attendance is not just allowed — it’s encouraged.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, February 4th
The next City Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 4, at 6:PM in Council Chambers at the City Building, 16 West Scribner Avenue.
This meeting will be either a regular voting meeting or an informal work session, depending on the needs of Council. At the time of publication, the agenda has not yet been released, which is not unusual for early-month meetings. Agendas are typically finalized closer to the meeting date.
Even without a posted agenda, residents are still welcome — and encouraged — to attend.
February’s Regular Council Meeting: February 18th
In addition to the February 4 meeting, DuBois City Council will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 18, also at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.
This meeting falls on the third Wednesday of the month, which is the standard schedule for the City’s regular voting meetings. These sessions often include ordinances, resolutions, financial matters, and other items that directly affect residents.
Why Attendance Matters — Even If You Don’t Speak
City officials routinely hear from consultants, staff, and other government entities. What they hear less often — unless residents make the effort — is direct feedback from the people who live here.
Simply attending meetings:
- Helps residents stay informed before decisions are finalized
- Makes Council aware that the public is paying attention
- Builds a clearer understanding of how city government operates
For those comfortable speaking, public comment periods provide an opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions, or offer perspective — all on the public record.
Other February City Meetings
Beyond City Council, several boards and authorities also meet regularly, shaping long-term planning and development in DuBois:
- Planning Commission – Meets the third Tuesday of each month at 3:PM
- Redevelopment Authority – Meets the second Tuesday of each month at 11:AM
These meetings are also open to the public and often handle issues that don’t always receive immediate attention but have lasting impact.
Accessibility, Transparency, And Notice Requirements
Meeting locations are subject to change, and any special meetings, cancellations, or updates are required to be announced in compliance with the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act. Special meetings must be advertised at least 24 hours in advance.
Residents who require accommodations to attend or participate are asked to contact the City of DuBois Administrative Office at least 48 hours in advance so arrangements can be made.
